About Michail Spanos
Greetings from the world of wine! I'm an Enologist currently starting a new chapter at Oenops Wines in Drama, Greece, following my enriching experience at Michalakis Estate winery in Crete, Greece.It all began with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Ioannina in Greece. From there, I ventured to renowned institutions across Europe, including L'Institut Agro Montpellier and Bordeaux Sciences Agro in France. My quest for knowledge then led me to the Università degli Studi di Udine in Italy, where I pursued my M2, specializing in Research and Development in Enology and Viticulture. From there, I had the privilege to travel to the Institut des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin to pursue my master's thesis, named "Greek Varietal Red Wines: A Comprehensive Phenolic Profile and its Interactions with Salivary Proteins". I defended it back in Udine in October 2023, earning a commendable 101/110 mark.My practical experience spans the vineyards and cellars of:• Oenops Wines with 200,000 Bottles/Year (Drama, Greece). • Michalakis Estate with 8,000,000 Bottles/Year (Crete, Greece), • Château Beauregard & Château Petit-Village with 70,000 Bottles/Year (Pomerol, Bordeaux, France),• Avincis Winery with 230,000 Bottles/Year (Dragasani, Romania),• Stergiou Estate with 30,000 Bottles/Year (Kastoria, Greece),These enriching experiences have cultivated my passion for fine wine and equipped me with the expertise to oversee the winemaking process from grape reception to bottling. I possess a particular proficiency in crafting exceptional red wines and have even extended my involvement to label design.In my free time, I dedicate myself to further study, seeking to evolve my own wine production. Additionally, I channel my passion for wine through writing insightful wine reviews on platforms such as Vivino. Beyond the world of wine, I am an ardent lover of the arts, finding inspiration in various forms of expression, such as Photography and Music. When not immersed in my work, you will find me capturing and editing photos, indulging in captivating movies or series, and continuously seeking avenues for personal and professional growth.
