I was first introduced to science during my University studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Studying at the Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering I acquired a solid foundation on all three major areas of the School, namely electrical energy, electronic & computer engineering and telecommunications. I chose to specialize in the latter and within this framework I completed my Diploma Thesis entitled:"Theoretical and Experimental Study Of The Nonlinear Phenomena Of Four Wave Mixing and Stimulated Raman Scattering In Optical Fibres."This gave me the opportunity to conduct laboratory work through which I acquired the necessary technical and soft skills and was able to complete a medium-scaled experiment with grate success.The next step was to complete the military service at the Research and Informatics Corps. Due to the sensitive nature of this position I cannot share a lot; it was a time however, during which I strengthened my discipline and the ability to follow orders.Given my intense interest in science, I wanted to keep learning and exploring, so after the army I pursued an academic degree, in particular the PhD title. This goal led me to EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), where after four years I successfully defended my Doctoral work with the title:"Phase resolved characterization of nanoscale features in optical microstructures".This four-years period was very interesting, intense and instructive. Having to tackle with various problems, I further enhanced my technical and soft skills and developed my scientific approach to understand and solve problems; collaborating with different people for different purposes also improved my social skills. Through my PhD research and work I matured on a scientific, technical, social and personal level.
