As a graduate of the Breslau University of Technology I have taken a position of an independent Structural Engineer at a steel structure fabrication plant ZWM Carbonex by the Malapanew steel mill in Ozimek. My employment has sparked the beginning of the structural department within ZWM Carbonex. With the help of a number of other engineers I have worked on projects for both - the company's internal needs, as well as other commercial projects for the company's clients. The projects included:Steel canopiesConcrete slabsDynamically loaded tungsten carbide ball mills support structureGantry analysesSteel pavilionsSteel warehouses.Additionally, as a process engineer I supervised the production performed in the company's shop. Quite often besides the supervision and quality control I was required to prepare shop drawings or expand those that required it, so that the final product could be of the best quality once it was fabricated. Major projects I oversaw included work on:Slurry pipeline for CubaPower plant generator support structure for DenmarkSteel transmission masts for GermanyRegeneration of coal cutting drums in PolandMany other smaller projects.On top of everyday duties I have been assigned to manage the creation of a 1MW synthetic gas generator battery that is interlinked with numerous technological processes (production of synthetic gas, electricity, heat, steam) within the strict centre of one of the major Polish cities.While working at ZWM Carbonex I have obtained knowledge from multiple fields - from project management and structural design to process oversight, as well as improved my soft skills. The first work I undertook at ZWM Carbonex located within Malapanew steel mill was still during university studies after obtaining my Bachelor's degree. While ZWM Carbonex is mainly oriented around fabrication of steel structures, my work included:Creating a building survey of an old factory from 1941 within the Malapanew steel mill.Modernization works of a factory from 1941 within the Malapanew steel mill.Preparation of steel shop drawings.Design of a fiber reinforced concrete floor slab.The work in ZWM CARBONEX has introduced me to heavy industry oriented work. This apprenticeship was the first time I was a part of a general contractor's team on a large scale commercial construction site of Wroclaw's new district "Promenady Wroclawskie". With 2 more years of studies before me this experience allowed me to contrast the theory with practice. he most important works I have participated in were:Participation in quality control of rebar laying and concreting works.Supervision of landscaping works overseen by Guy Perry's award winning INVI studio, which included relatively extensive earthworks.Quality control over finishing works (partition walls, plasters, external elevation works).Assembly and testing of roof fire control systems.Quantity surveying and inventory calculations.After 3 months of hard work I have gained much insight into junior engineer work at a construction site as well as improved my teamwork skills.
