About Michał Kłosiński

Dr hab. Michał Kłosiński, associate professor at The Faculty of Humanities, University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. An active member of Utopian Studies Society and The Society for Utopian Studies. During my doctoral studies I participated in the Paris Program in Critical Theory. I published articles on Polish literature, literary theory and video games in: "Games and Culture", “Game Studies”, “Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds”, “International Journal of Baudrillard Studies”, “Pamiętnik Literacki”, “Teksty Drugie”. I am the author of monographs: Świat pęknięty. O poemach naiwnych Czesława Miłosza (Warsaw 2013), Ratunkiem jest tylko poezja Baudrillard – Teoria – Literatura (Warsaw 2015), Hermeneutyka gier wideo. Interpretacja immersja, utopia [Hermeneutics of video games. Interpretation, immersion, utopia] (Warsaw 2018) and Przygody cyfrowego tułacza [Adventures of a digital nomad] (Katowice 2023). I also co-edited (With Ksenia Olkusz and Krzysztof M. Maj) More After More. Essays Commemorating the Five-Hundredth Anniversary of Thomas More’s Utopia (Krakow 2016), Ekonomiczne teorie literatury (with Paweł Tomczok) (Katowice 2016) and Dyskursy gier wideo (with Krzysztof M. Maj) [Discourses of video games] (2019). My current hermeneutical and post-phenomenological research can be placed at the intersection of literary theory, game studies and utopian studies. My main interests are: critically oriented video games, literary theory and philosophy of technology. My research focuses on questions of representation, simulacra, quasi-objects and critique of capitalism based on hermeneutic lectures of games and literature. From 2022 I am realizing a grant for “Mapping game biopolitics” from Polish National Science Centre.In April 2023 I established Game Studies Research Centre at the University of Silesia. The GSRC is an initiative established to connect researchers from different faculties and departments under the common game studies interest. As such, the GSRC represents a cross-disciplinary initiative reflecting the complexity of game studies. The GSRC also aims to produce a platform promoting local game studies at the global research arena, improving visibility of publications and scientific initiatives of its collaboratorsand build lasting relationships between game development, education and business.Since October 2024 I am VP at GETES Institute, working on establishing global standards of certification for skill training with new technologies.
