The clientele were between the ages of 18 and 65 years old who had been diagnosed as Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill (SPMI). Our clients were referred to our agency either from state hospitals or prisons, where they had lived most of their lives. Our goal was to assist this population in learning how to live independently by teaching them various how to manage various aspects of their lives on their own. It is a 2-5 year program and, once the clients begin to make progress towards independence in multiple areas of their lives (such as following up with treatment providers, filling their medications on their own, and becoming independent in administering their medications without having to be under staff supervision), then we begin the process of assisting them in finding permanent, independent housing in the community.
