As a physical chemist applied to the field of materials, my interests of study includes inorganic synthesis, structural/morphological and surface characterization of solids and their application to mainly, but not only, (electro)catalytic processes. Before engaging in a PhD, I have been working in the field of corrosion, from which I gained a strong electrochemical background. Currently, as a PhD student, my research topic are the synthesis and characterization of calcium phosphate compunds and composites, which are applied to wastewater remediation, sensing of pollutants in waterbodies and, as dopants, in the electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 (the latter in collaboration with Prof. Atanassov group at University of California, Irvine, where I have been visiting PhD student). Common denominator of all my research activities are the rational design and characterization of solids’ surfaces, the study of adsorption phenomena. Adsorption aimed to wastewater remediation, electrochemical sensing and electrocatalysis are the main fields of materials’ application I have been exploring.
