About Michele James

As an advisement coordinator at CUNY Start, I led the professional development, curriculum design, and program structures of advisement staff at nine campuses, serving over 3,000 students per year. With the help of my team, I redesigned and rewrote the College Seminar curriculum, a 12-lesson course that develops students' understanding of themselves as learners in demanding college systems. I also managed the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of new advisors, and provided ongoing support and evaluation to ensure high-quality advisement services. With 20 years of experience in education, I have developed a passion and expertise for student engagement, higher education administration, teaching, and coaching. I have worked with diverse populations of students, from high school to college, in various settings and countries, including the NSLI-Y program in Seoul, Korea, where I supported 50 American students studying the Korean language and completing summer homestays. I recently relocated to Montreal after pursuing a master's degree in North American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin.
