The combination of 29 years of the practice of law, both in private practice as well as the last 20 years in a variety of legal and risk management duties for a large academic acute healthcare system, has rendered me uniquely qualified to be an effective leader and chief risk officer. My opportunities for innovation in the healthcare space have included directing and managing medical malpractice, general liability, employment practices liability, directors and officers liability and workers compensation claim and litigation. This logically required development of a robust risk financing program, including the formation and continued management/ oversight of two successful captive insurance companies, a property & casualty insurance program consisting of self-insurance and commercial products and well as deductible buy-downs, and the design and development of the organization's first Enterprise Risk Management program which specifically aligns with enterprise strategic goals and helps to prioritize work and resources on big picture risks.
