The Greater Victoria Citizens’ Counselling Centre offers affordable, accessible counselling to adult residents of Greater Victoria. All counselling is offered by volunteer counsellors trained and supervised by the Centre. We have a sliding fee scale based on family income. No one is turned away because they are unable to pay.The Centre began in 1969 and since then has worked with over 20,000 people providing direct services to about 1,200 people a year now.I took the amazing 10-month counsellor training programme in 2001, and have been working in support of the Centre since that time.I have been on the organizing committee of the Centre's annual fundraiser, Tip a Fool, since its inception in 2005, serving as the event coordinator and/or chair. Tip a Fool just completed its 6th event in 2014, and has raised well over $120,000 for the Centre.

The Community Action Plan on Poverty has been created by organizations in B.C.'s Capital Region convened by the Community Social Planning Council. This multi-sector coalition has developed a Community Action Plan on Poverty (CAP on Poverty) to guide commitments with a concrete annual program of activities to create outcomes.All members of the public, community, governmental, business and other stakeholders are invited to participate by endorsing the Community Action Plan and by pledging a specific community action to work towards the goal of reducing and preventing poverty in the Capital Region.
