Short term volunteer placement (through VSO-Randstad partnership) in Tanzania for 8 weeks as HR Advisor on the EEVT project-Enhancing Employability through Vocational Training- that combines the efforts of VSO, VETA (Vocational Education Training Authority) and BG Tanzania to improve the employability of young people in the regions of Mtwara in Lindi with a focus on the growing demand for skilled labor in the gas industry. My primary objectives were to:1. Organize employers' forum and job fairs2. Set up mechanism to ensure dialogue and referral between VETA centers3. Advise VETA on management of industrial opportunities4. Design software skills on resume developmentWhile in Tanzania,I helped to develop a long term strategy to link the industry to the students at VETA and help secure employment after graduation. With my expertise and knowledge gained in my 7 years in recruitment and client delivery I outlined details on how to maintain relationships with potential employers, provided a resume outline and examples, and interview prep sheet for those going into the workforce, and detailed how to run a successful job fair.Working in a developing country was very eye opening and though I was there a short time, my hope is that the potential that exists within the program at VETA will be realized and the written strategy will help them along the way.
