Winterfall Theatre Company is an independent, professional theatre company. Formed in 2010 by Michele Williams and Trent Baker, the company began in Northcote at The Theatre Husk. Now managed by Michele Williams, the company has moved its location to an intimate theatre venue in Kew where its last production was "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" in 2016. The company recently received a degree of philanthropic funding, however is awaiting more funds before it launches a new season in 2019. Winterfall is now committed to spending time sourcing funds so that actors can be paid appropriately. As anyone who has ever worked in independent theatre knows, this is an uphill battle, however Michele Williams (who now owns and manages the theatre company) is tired of seeing how many wonderful actors in Melbourne continue to work for little remuneration. To this end, its 2016 production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" paid equity minimum to all cast members, after the company spent several years in a position where this was not possible. It is very likely that by 2019, the company will be in a position to undertake small cast plays where actors will paid equity minimum (or a salary that is very close to it) as part of the company's current system of values is that actors with many years of experience should be paid as are professionals in any other industry. Michele has spent the last few years assuring funds, and hopes that the company will re-launch itself in the near future. Winterfall Theatre Company will be forever grateful to the wonderful, talented actors, directors, stage managers, lighting designers, set designers and all creatives who worked tirelessly and often for small and sometimes no financial remuneration, and looks forward to a near future where many of these artists will be able to return on salaries that reflect their talent.
