About Michele Doyle

Regenerative agriculture increases biodiversity and carbon capture while producing food. I apply my years of experience as a plant cell and molecular biologist generating genetically-modified crop plants and analyzing transgenics to the principles of soil health. I'm an analytic thinker with extensive lab skills and knowledge of biology. I have a passion for habitat preservation and believe that regenerative agriculture is where I can make my best contribution. If interested, these are details of my experiences in reverse chronology-In Syngenta's Germplasm Contractual Compliance team, I analyzed data to connect legal obligations, permissions, and restrictions to acquired germplasm. At AgBiome, I worked in the trait validation pipeline doing agrobacterium-mediated soybean and maize transformation. For the most part, I transformed candidate genes into soybean to determine if the genes were biologically active against particular plant pests in vivo without being toxic to the plant. Previously at Syngenta, I worked in the transgenic event pipeline doing vector quality control, plant analysis, and agrobacterium-mediated transformation of corn, sugar cane and soybean. In corn, I also did transformation by microprojectile bombardment and stable transformation of protoplasts using PEG in elite lines. In my post doc, I temporarily transitioned to medical research. I studied the impact of hypoxia on human astrocytes during the onset of glaucoma. By immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy, and RNase protection assays, I demonstrated changes of expression in the astrocyte cell cytoskeleton and cell attachment proteins (integrins) during hypoxia. My dissertation was on the expression of a soybean beta-tubulin gene that's down-regulated in the light-grown hypocotyl. I used chimeric-gene constructs in transgenic tobacco and arabidopsis to study cis-acting elements controlling gene expression. Temporal and spatial expression was observed histochemically and fluorometrically. Gene expression was further investigated by RNase protection. At Sungene Technologies I was a maize tissue culturist and greenhouse associate who did some phenotyping in the field. We worked on elite lines of corn for crop improvement through somaclonal variation, in vitro selection, and mutagenesis.
