As the scientific writer and project manager in Dr. William Robinson’s laboratory in the Division of Immunology and Rheumatology at the Stanford University School of Medicine, I write, edit, and proofread scientific manuscripts and grants pertaining to the laboratory’s research projects on rheumatic diseases. I have written and edited grant applications and papers on scientific projects focusing on regulation of bony changes and innate immune responses in osteoarthritis, as well as B cell antibody repertoire sequencing in rheumatoid arthritis and Lyme disease. As the project manager, I interact with graduate students, post docs and staff scientists as well as academic and industry collaborators to discuss the trajectory of scientific projects, interpret data, troubleshoot, and plan future experiments.

I researched and wrote eleven original articles focused on topics around biological and clinical research for the online BRCA Journal. These articles communicated complex scientific concepts to a lay audience. I also curated social media content for the BRCA Foundation's Facebook and Twitter feeds. I compiled and posted high-quality and relevant news articles and resources of interest to the BRCA Foundation's followers.

I continued my graduate work in Dr. Douglas Koshland's laboratory studying the dynamics of the Cohesin complex and its role in mediating chromosome structure. I synthesized a model in which regulatory factors recycle Cohesin so that it can be redistributed throughout the genome in order to promote different functions. I wrote, edited and designed figures for a peer-reviewed journal article that was submitted and is currently in revision.

As a graduate student in Dr. Douglas Koshland's laboratory I studied the regulation of chromosome structure in a yeast model system. I studied a protein complex called Cohesin, an essential mediator of this process. I used a combination of genetic, cell biological, and biochemical approaches to study how regulatory factors interacted to control Cohesin function in various nuclear contexts including chromosome condensation, DNA repair and chromosome segregation. From my analysis, I synthesized a model in which regulators recycle Cohesin so that it can be redistributed throughout the genome in order to mediate each of these functions.

As a member of Dr. Kyungjae (KJ) Myung's laboratory I investigated the function and pathways of proteins involved in maintaining genomic stability. I performed a genome-wide screen of yeast genes that confer gross chromosomal rearrangements. I followed up from this screen by probing the role and genetic pathway an uncharacterized yeast ORF implicated in DNA repair.

As a part of Dr. Richard Michelmore's laboratory I worked on multiple projects probing resistance of plants to pathogens. I analyzed the interactions between pathogen effector genes and plant resistance genes through a large-scale Yeast two-hybrid screen. I also analyzed the evolution of resistance genes across cultivars of tomato plants through sequence analysis and alignment

Working with Dr. Douglas Stewart, I investigated the genetic basis of the the disease Neurofibromatosis Type I. I used sequencing techniques and built haplotypes and pedigrees to trace mutations in the NF1 gene in order to correlate the relationship between genotype and phenotype in the manifestation of NF1 symptoms
