As a graduate student in Dr. Douglas Koshland's laboratory I studied the regulation of chromosome structure in a yeast model system. I studied a protein complex called Cohesin, an essential mediator of this process. I used a combination of genetic, cell biological, and biochemical approaches to study how regulatory factors interacted to control Cohesin function in various nuclear contexts including chromosome condensation, DNA repair and chromosome segregation. From my analysis, I synthesized a model in which regulators recycle Cohesin so that it can be redistributed throughout the genome in order to mediate each of these functions.
Post-Baccalaureate Fellow
As a member of Dr. Kyungjae (KJ) Myung's laboratory I investigated the function and pathways of proteins involved in maintaining genomic stability. I performed a genome-wide screen of yeast genes that confer gross chromosomal rearrangements. I followed up from this screen by probing the role and genetic pathway an uncharacterized yeast ORF implicated in DNA repair.

As a part of Dr. Richard Michelmore's laboratory I worked on multiple projects probing resistance of plants to pathogens. I analyzed the interactions between pathogen effector genes and plant resistance genes through a large-scale Yeast two-hybrid screen.
