I am a writer, artist, museum educator, and art historian. I'm passionate about arts education and inclusion. I also specialize in creating original curriculum and other interpretive materials. My goal is to make art and history accessible to new audiences through close-looking, discussion, and collaborative investigation and discovery.As Head of Education at the Norton Simon Museum I created a number of new programs for families and adults, including an annual museum-wide Family Festival, a monthly “Mindful Looking” session focusing on a single work of art, and the Museum’s first professional development program for teachers. I have also partnered with Mount Saint Mary's Nursing School to provide trainings at the Museum, and I developed new offerings for special needs groups in coordination with the Alzheimer’s Association and other local organizations. I wrote new interactive family and garden guides for the Norton Simon and I have written extensive curriculum materials for the Museum as well. Previously, I was Content Specialist for Teacher Programs at LACMA where I created the museum's first online course for teachers entitled Visions of War. I hold an M.A. in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, and a B.A. in English literature from Carleton College. I was the first recipient of the Samuel H. Kress fellowship in Museum Teaching, working at The Frick Collection with former Head of Education Rika Burnham, and I have both classroom and gallery teaching experience. Specialties: I specialize in arts interpretation, researching art in depth and then using that knowledge to engage a broad range of audiences in Art and Art History. My areas of expertise within Art History are Italian Renaissance and 19th Century Art, but I have experience researching and teaching art and history of various periods and cultures, from ancient to contemporary. My liberal arts background lends itself to interdisciplinary studies, and I'm very interested in the intersection between art, literature, and history.
