Legal lead on the Your Way Forward project. Developed and implemented a specialized housing legal service for Ontario tenants experiencing gender-based violence using trauma and violence informed practice. Work included managing the design of a mixed-methods qualitative research project, completing a jurisdictional scan of Canadian residential tenancy and social housing legislation, interviewing key stakeholders and lived experience participants across Ontario, and authoring a report on the process of securing and maintaining permanent housing for victims/survivors of gender-based violence in Ontario. Prepared and presented key findings and the launch of Canada’s first specialized housing legal service for victims/survivors at the 2023 Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Provided summary legal advice, representation, and case consultations for clients experiencing gender-based violence. Designed and authored a legal submissions template and guideline on in-person hearing requests for self-represented litigants. Developed and presented public legal education materials and training on tenant rights. Provided tenant duty counsel services by providing summary legal advice to self-represented tenants and drafting submissions at the Landlord and Tenant Board.
