Michelle established her coaching and consulting business in July 2016 after enjoying a career in the private and mostly public sector over 35 years. Her public sector career of nearly 30 years comprised service delivery, program management, policy and corporate roles in the Commonwealth government. Fifteen of those years in the Australian Public Service were spent in the Senior Executive Service (SES) with the last six years as an SES Band 2 (Division Head/General Manager).Michelle has been an accredited coach with the Institute of Executive Coaching and Leadership (IECL) since 2009. Formerly an Associate and Senior Executive Coach for IECL, holding a Level Three certification, she coached dozens of people, was an Ignites pro bono coach for the IECL Ignites 2016 program for young professionals, and a Plus One coach for the IECL Foundation. Michelle is accredited to run the GLWS (Global Leadership Wellbeing Survey). Formerly an Accredited Mental Health First Aider, she also holds a Practitioner FOS (Fearless Organisation Scan) accreditation. Her coaching engagements include CEO and C-suite executives in the private and not-for-profit sectors, and SES and senior officers at both federal and state level. Michelle was also a founding member for the My Coaching, My Future DV initiative.Michelle undertook a Review of the two People Divisions in the Commonwealth Department of Human Services in December 2017.Michelle is a Jeff Whalan Learning Group facilitator, and was formerly an Action Learning Group Mentor for Executive Leadership Australia and an in-class Mentor Coach for IECL’s Level One Training Program. She was the Diversity Champion in the Department of Education and Training, and Disability Champion in the former Centrelink, and has extensive experience and a passion for working with service delivery networks and managing virtual teams. Managing change and building new teams/organisations is another area of expertise.Testimonial:I first knew Michelle Cornish when she was a very young and enthusiastic problem solver in the early days of the establishment of Centrelink. She was one of the young stars we identified to find new ways of delivering better service. Michelle is clever and had a great emotional intelligence making her a leader for the modern age, capable of anticipating the future and taking people with her. She had a strong sense of doing what is right and of benefit both to the aspirations of policy and the interests of the citizen.Sue Vardon AO
