Daniel Foster’s research of the Muscarinic Receptors as Targets for Regulating Repetitive Behaviors focuses on the dopaminergic pathways of mice. This research aims to analyze the underlying neural circuitry within the striatum which is involved in the repetitive behavior and psychosis that is often observed in numerous psychological disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.My primary role within this lab is to perform gene analysis for the mice. My daily tasks would include genotyping and running gel electrophoresis for the tail samples. This is critical as it helps our team to observe trends in gene expression; this would be our foundation as it allows us to modify our current drug therapies to treat these problems. I have also participated in hand-scoring experimentation where I observe and record mice grooming patterns. This is essential to our research as it allows our team to understand the frequency of mice grooming which pioneers our psychopharmacological investigation of potential interventions that could reduce the repeated behaviors.
