Problems with computer accessibility and accommodations they made are the main areas of focus. - As research assistant, I was responsible for programming the online survey, recruiting participants, and preparing manuscripts for publication. Alzheimer’s Association Palliative Care Study, Joann Reinhardt, PI- Intervention study examining the effects of a palliative care program on the psychological and physical health of dementia patients who live in a nursing home; how the patients’ health care proxies perceive the patients’ health and their own health was also examined- As research assistant, I conducted phone interviews with the health care proxies, which included administering standardized questionnaires and asking open-ended questions; I also created and maintained databases for the study, conducted medical chart reviews, and statistical analyses of the data.

An fMRI Study of TBI Associated with Blast Injury, Louis French, PI- Training research assistants to administer neuropsychological assessments to soldiers who have sustained a traumatic brain injury due to blast exposure

Breacher Injury Study: Evaluation of the Bio-Effects of Repeated, Low-Level Blast Exposures, Walter Carr, PI- Seven-institution, multidisciplinary collaboration, evaluating potential effects in Marine Corps “Breachers” from repeated exposure to explosive blast. Breachers use explosives at close range for entry to closed doorways, buildings, etc. and have anecdotally reported symptoms consistent with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). - As study coordinator and Chief for neurocognitive assessment: oversaw the Informed Consent process, trained assessment personnel, and led a team of 5 test administrators in the use of traditional and computerized neuropsychological testing. Duties also included procurement and preparation of test materials, randomizing and counterbalancing testing conditions, entering and analyzing data, transcribing audio records, and identifying and evaluating relevant published research.- Supervised a post-baccalaureate student, training her to enter and code data- In November of 2008, completed an effort to collect survey data on health symptoms related to breaching at the 9th International Breacher Symposium in Chattanooga, TN - Manuscript from this research entitled “Neurological correlates of repeated blast exposure in military breachers” is currently in revision.
