I am a new grad Practical Nurse. I am an experienced developmental services worker with forty years of involvement with children, youth, and adults in both residential and school settings as well as sports. I demonstrate strong skills in advocacy, therapeutic relationships, personal care, mentoring, coaching, and teamwork. Working as a developmental services worker since 1982, my experiences have ranged from providing adapted aquatics instruction to young adults, to supporting individuals in semi-independent living, to working as an educational assistant that provides support to students with developmental, physical, and/or learning disabilities.Transitioning to a new career in nursing has allowed me to demonstrate my leadership and advocacy skills in a new way. Using my knowledge from previous employment allows me communicate effectively with patients and families, and be confident in my ability to collaborate interprofessionally. I have a passion for promoting and supporting new, innovative ideas to meet the needs of vulnerable populations. I have demonstrated strong nursing skills during my clinical placements with Quinte Health in their rehab program, and maternity, surgical, and medicine units. While in clinical placements, I actively sought out opportunities to increase my knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the clients being served. Instructors have noted that I am highly skilled in integrating knowledge from various sources, in being professional, and in easily developing therapeutic relationships with clients along with working well with both intraprofessional and interprofessional team members.
