Michelle Powers is an Emmy nominated anchor, MMJ, reporter and producer. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Each day for the past ten years, she has felt proud to cover breaking news in New York City. She has won multiple awards and has been nominated for four Emmys. In her current position as the Managing Editor of Operations, DeSales Media, she most recently spearheaded, and coordinated the move to a remote studio at the height of the pandemic for both a weekly newspaper and a nightly news station. Michelle started off carrying a 30 pound news camera through the streets of the five boroughs as a videographer for NY1. Some of her very first stories included the Trayvon Martin rallies, the Etan Patz case and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. She then spent some time producing news from the inside, as a production assistant for PIX 11's morning news. Among other events, she helped produce Super Bowl XLVIII. In 2014, Michelle joined the team at Currents News in Brooklyn. There, she covered a wide range of stories across the city, including the 2016 presidential election, terrorist attacks and countless local and international issues. Michelle has traveled to the border of Mexico to produce a series on immigration, and to various cities across the United States and around Europe, all with camera in hand, writing, editing and shooting her own pieces. She's received awards for producing stories in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and for coordinating more than 60 hours of live papal coverage. She was the runner-up for a Gabriel award for Director of the Year.In addition to reporting, producing, and anchoring, Michelle is currently the Managing Editor of Operations for DeSales Media. She is a creative leader and that is helping to drive a multi-platform news department to the next level. In 2022, the Spanish language newspaper she managed won Spanish Publication of the year.Michelle is a graduate of New York University and holds a masters degree in American Studies, as well as an undergraduate degree from the university in both Journalism and History.
