Graduation Speaker
Hssp (Health: Science, Society, And Policy) Undergraduate Departmental Representative
As a UDR, I served as an ambassador for the Health: Science, Society, and Policy (HSSP) Department and critically examined department needs. I facilitated faculty-student engagement and elicited student feedback to the department chair, undergraduate advising head, and faculty within the major. I executed 3-4 events/initiatives each semester within the HSSP department, with other departments and programs, with HSSP alumni and with Brandeis' Hiatt Career Center.
Speaker At South Street Seminar: Future Leaders In Health
I was chosen to speak at the South Street Seminar: Future Leaders in Health conference put on by Brandeis University to showcase select students and one professor and to connect with alumni. I was honored to speak and share my story, in addition to working with wonderful students and staff. Sadly, this opportunity to speak and connect in person was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so it took place on Zoom.
Managing Medicine Teaching Assistant
As a TA for a healthcare management class, I supported students in their work and acted as a resource for them, as well as an intermediary between the professor, the students, and the entire department.
Creative Correspondent
I was selected to create a blog that documented my experience in Spain. I published creative (and ideally insightful) blogs for future study abroad participants to read, utilizing multiple mediums (e.g. videos, photos, interviews, and written content). I worked during this semester abroad by documenting my life in Spain, what this experience has meant to me, and what I have learned to share with incoming classes.
Brain Dissectionist & Histopathology Intern
As an intern in the brain bank, there is an array of projects on which I worked. Since the staff was a small group, it allowed me to get my hands dirty (while remaining a very sterile work environment) in many areas of neuroscience research and technical work.As an intern, I was monitoring stored (storage can be either tissue resting in formalin or being frozen) brains to ensure proper up-kept and that all tissue was still viable. I researched, studied, and prepared human brains for dissection, while also assisting in dissections. I assisted in the histopathology department as well, where the brain tissue was prepared for further research for both psychotic and neurodegenerative research. I also got to assist with engrossment (visual diagnosis) of the brain and sit with the neuropathologist as he closely examines and gives official diagnoses to the brain.I gained skills in dissection, histology, neuropathology, as well as securing a much deeper understanding of neurobiology and how different diseases physically affect the brain. My time here gave me unparalleled experience, exposure, and knowledge of the brain, its anatomy and physiology, as well as lab experience and conduct.
Senior Staff Writer
I wrote various articles on featured topics throughout each semester. Due to my scientific background, I was typically covering lecture, documentary showings or research presentations. In order to make my articles more compelling, I would typically conduct an interview with the keynote speaker from each event. Since my interest span beyond the scientific sphere, I also covered student profiles as well as events on campus that relate to social justice issues. Writing for The Justice allowed me to continue writing, something about which I am very passionate. It was an easy way to stay involved on campus and have the opportunity to learn beyond my classes.
Sales And Office Assistant
The skills I've needed to prove successful at selling stationery vary tremendously from that of succeeding in a biology class. Because Faux Designs is a small business, it has granted me the opportunity to work in different areas of business. When working in the sales department (which I primarily do), I have learned to provide a high level of customer service. This includes fielding inquiries regarding product as well as billing. When working in the shipping department, I have learned the precision and attention to detail preparation of orders for shipping requires. When working in the graphic design department, I have learned the painstaking work that goes into getting every color and line perfect for sale. I now work part-time for Faux, at regional and national stationery trade shows. In preparation for the show, I will call customers and make appointments for the trade show. At the show itself, I help with set up and break down (before and after, respectively) in addition to selling the product itself. This client-based market has taught me much about being a diligent and hard-working employee.
Camp Counselor
I could write books on all the incredible impacts Eisner has had on my life. As a camper, I had made my closest friends (still to this day). As a counselor, camp took on a different role: becoming less free-wheeling and much more work intensive. As a counselor, it was my job to manage, support, and mentor campers ages thirteen to eighteen. I collaborated with co-counselors to develop profound programming nightly that is designed to thought and discussion among campers. I attribute so many of my behavioral and people skills to being a counselor at camp. Whether to find a creative solution to a camper problem, learn how to work long, thankless hours, or merely how to build a connection with peers or children, camp has trained me to work smart and hard. In 2016-2017 I participated in the Olim Fellowship which allowed me to hone my leadership and program writing skills while offering improvement to camp and acting as a leader in the bunks. This training lead me to be the recipient of the Fadem-Razen Excellence in Leadership Staff Award in 2017.
