For over a decade, I thrived in the pressure-cooker that is broadcast TV news and it taught me some important things: • Like MacGyver, I excel at creative problem solving with given constraints • Data and analytics are my cherished friends • Once, on a 10pm newscast, the name of an NFL team was misspelled and I received a deluge of phone calls from irate viewers. The experience started me on a lifelong journey of being obsessed with details and doing things right • I quickly adapt to new learnings and can turn on a dime in order to deliver key outcomes4. "Don't ever stop learning, you don't want to be a one-trick pony." • Years ago my mentor gave me that advice and I really took it to heart. Design DirectorKmbc-Tv 1995 - Sep 2005I ran the design department for both television stations- which was essentially an in-house ad agency to support all departments and most critically- news production. Recruited, hired, trained and oversaw my staff (and they were the best of the best!) in a high adrenaline, high stress environment. My department provided everything creative & design related- news production graphics/animation, print collateral, sales promotions, print production/layout for a variety of station projects. If you needed a logo on a pencil or a paint scheme for a helicopter, I got it done. There was never a dull moment- I'm proud to say my department ran like a well oiled machine when I was there. My staff was incredible and they made me look great! 2 -D & 3-D animation, Print, Graphic Design, Identity, plus video production and editing. Created and implemented graphics accountability and streamlined production procedures.
