About Michelle C. Bates (Mj, Professional Genealogist, Criminal Paralegal)

I am a professional genealogist and probate heir researcher, whose focus is on helping law firms take away the stress of finding living legal heirs for their client's estate. The probate process itself can be a complicated process, so by hiring My Genealogy Roots to research the family tree and find those legal heirs, attorney's can focus their time elsewhere and eliminate wasted billable hours trying to do it themselves. As an educated, professional genealogist, I am able to complete the research using the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) to ensure that the proper analysis is done and the findings are solid. I love all things law, as a criminal legal admin for the US Attorney's Office, a probate researcher, and the host/creator/researcher of The Criminal Genealogist podcast. Currently in the process of creating the largest database for criminal records, to help fellow researchers find information on their criminal ancestors or ancestors involved in the legal/law enforcement history.

  • Verizon Enterprise Solutions
    Sr. Analyst/Team Lead
Verizon Enterprise Solutions Mar 2005 - Jun 2014
    Basking Ridge, Nj, Us
In this role, I served a lead role for a group of 15+ contract and order implementation analysts. This group was responsible for implementing contracts and orders for our business customers, billing over $15 million a month. My responsibilities included supporting our group for new products, billing promotions, contract language supportability, and to serve as the main point of contact for projects. As a lead, I was able to implement new processes and create automation tools to increase productivity in the group. This allowed the team to focus on revenue-producing projects. Within this timeframe, I completed the Lean Six Sigma training at Verizon to gain my Green Belt status. The project addressed a gap in a process that was causing revenue to be lost and customer billing to be incorrect. Using the LSS tools, I was able to identify the gap and the correct solution to improve the process, which created a revenue increase month over month. And created a better customer experience too. In 2006, Verizon merged with MCI so this role was between both companies.
  • Mci Communications
    Senior Audit Analyst/Project Manager
    Mci Communications Apr 2000 - Mar 2005
    Washington, Dc, Us
As a Senior Audit Analyst with MCI (MCI WorldCom), I was responsible for auditing the outputs created by the billing groups for over 20 billing cycles throughout the month. These audits included prelim and final dates for each cycle, to determine if there were any significant fluctuations on the invoice. Also in charge of making sure the tariff changes were reflected on the repricer and impacting customers correctly. Also within this role, I was responsible for managing projects that impacting our systems or processes. One such project I ran while in this role was for the World Trade Center 2001 that involved several organizations throughout the company to determine customers affected by the World Trade Center tragedy in order to stop the billing on these services. I worked with these groups to identify addresses affected, identify the sites associated with these addresses, notify the customers of our intent to turn off the billing for these sites and work with the billing groups to manage the billing cessation.
  • Worldcom
    Billing Team Lead
    Worldcom Sep 1998 - Apr 2002
In September 1998, I was promoted to a Lead Billing Analyst. In this role, I still completed the tasks as a billing analyst but I took on the responsibilities to content and review the work of other analysts in the billing group. If there were issues, I would provide feedback to the analysts for proper resolution. This created an opportunity to create training documents and improve the processes for mundane daily tasks, which was implemented into the training I provided to new analysts. As a lead, I handled billing issues and drove issue resolution with legal, sales and pricing support in a timely manner. All billing adjustments for issues were handled by the lead analysts.
  • Worldcom
    Billing Analyst
    Worldcom Mar 1998 - Sep 1998
As a billing analyst at WorldCom, my responsibilities included completing work orders for billing purposes, researching billing issues, applying contractual credits/debits to accounts, and auditing work prior to invoice release. Within 6 months of starting, I was promoted to a lead billing analyst.
