About Michelle B.

2018 to present Project Controls and Planning Consultancy Co-Owner and Director: Research, Stakeholder Engagement and Sustainable Business. Provide niche sustainable system & tech solutions to clients and for large to mega projects on 6 continents in the industries of agribusiness, built engineering, construction, energy, gas, mining, petrochemicals, power generation and water. I focus on integrating internal KPIs with external commitments to the green transition, SDGs, Agenda 2063 etc., to mainstream socially responsive investment and stakeholder including impacted community engagement from pre-feasibility through stage gate studies to closure reports with forensic performance audits and stakeholder validation exercises conducted during and post project implementation. From 1999 to 2017 middle & senior management in government: international programme management; special projects; stakeholder relations; leading research team drafting country information reports, situational briefs, policy, regulations, executive documents and legislation; conflict negotiations, media liaison; speech writing & guest speaker/presenter at partnership events; protocol ceremonial event management for Cabinet Members, Deputy President & the President, having served all democratic Presidents in various capacities except for current incumbent; and public sector training & professional development, notably in post conflict countries. I worked with partners worldwide but was based in Kinshasa, DRC. My departments included Home Affairs, International Relations, National School of Government, and the Western Cape Provincial Cultural &Environmental Affairs. The highlight of my government career was establishing from conception to physical building, their own school of public service in the DRC, still operational. a decade later.In 2019 to 2022 Department of Science and Innovation - National Research Fund (DSI-NRF) and the University of Pretoria, UN Week of Science and Peace Conference. From 2019, I formally joined academia undertaking a DSI-NRF funded study, becoming an official blogger for the South African Young Association of Sciences and earning my master's degree in the process. From 2021 to present first cohort participant of the British Academy funded Writing and Research on Inequality in Africa (WARIA) Programme co-hosted by the Universities of Derby and Leeds-Beckett in UK. Trained in Germany and a recipient & active alumnus of multiple US government programmes. Currently undertaking a PhD in International Relations with paper & book chapter to be printed.
