Explained the cultural context of works such as Theogony, Timaeus, Oedipus Rex, Oresteia, and the Iliad, then challenged the students to compare and contrast modern and ancient cultures. The course concluded with the students themselves researching and presenting on portions of The Metamorphoses by Ovid to apply the principles of critical thinking and rhetoric they had learned throughout the semester.

Translated independently up to 6 hours per week. Collected and synthesized each team member’s translation into one final working manuscript, paying special attention to grammar and format consistency. Paced meetings and facilitated group discussions about the translation. Gathered extra research for the group and made it available by creating an online communication platform for the group. Helped analyze what was slowing the translation process and recommended solutions to improve group efficiency. Organized and kept a record of the manuscripts. Acted as the technical support for the team.

Attended international affairs events hosted by DC think tanks. Using information from the events and from additional research, wrote analytic summary reports that were sent to relevant SIL employees. Took care of administrative tasks in organizing an International Literacy Day event that SIL co-hosted with BEC, SID, World Vision, and the MTB-MLE Network. Represented SIL International’s stance on mother tongue literacy both at the Senate and at various think tank meetings in D.C. Acted as a liaison between SIL employees and foreign ambassadors.
