I am delighted to be a member of an extraordinary team of engineers at a truly special company that sends over 90B e-mails a month and 10B on peak days. I’ve been fortunate to work on a number of vital projects such rearchitecting and replacing 125 load balancers, migrating Grafana to Kubernetes using the Grafana operator, bringing up a Splunk cluster in AWS using Terraform, and bootstrapping a brand-new data center. As a founding member of the monitoring infrastructure team, I implemented numerous hardware and software improvements, ensuring the infrastructure was robust enough to support the teams that rely on it.KEY CONTRIBUTIONS:► Worked on a nine-month project to rearchitect and replace all of the company's load balancers.➢ Configured Consul, Keepalived, HAProxy, and Nginx in two dozen Chef cookbooks for the new load balancers.➢ Successfully migrated 965 VIPs across 125 load balancer pairs with no customer impact.► Conducted an audit of bare metal and VMs resulting in savings of over $300K.➢ Examined thousands of KVM servers for misconfigurations which prevented them from being utilized.➢ Identified hundreds of unused VMs, significantly increasing capacity on existing KVM servers.► Developed and documented a process to fix data redundancy issues in on-prem Prometheus clusters.➢ Reduced AWS spend by shrinking data storage in cloud Prometheus clusters.► Migrated Grafana from Chef-managed VMs to Kubernetes using the Grafana operator.➢ Implemented a daily back up of Grafana's dashboards and data sources to a GitHub repo.➢ Improved the Graphite clusters' performance via carbonapi and go-carbon, decreasing the load times of Grafana dashboards.► Built a 54-node Splunk cluster in AWS via Terraform to ensure sufficient capacity over the high-volume Black Friday weekend.➢ Completely revamped the Fluentd implementation by putting it into a Helm chart and adding additional functionality, making the service much easier to maintain.
