I’m an anthropologist and World Bank alumna with over fifteen years of experience working across multiple sectors and functions on social and environmental sustainability, including economic development, resilience, CSR, ESG, social impact, and smart cities, which was the focus of my Ph.D. I have over ten years of experience with program management and evaluation, communications, and research and data analytics for two Fortune 100 tech companies. I began my career at The World Bank, where I helped rebuild communities after war by conducting social and environmental assessments for over $30B of projects focused on poverty alleviation, economic development, and social rehabilitation. This work, combined with my experience at Creative Associates, involved collaborating with a wide range of actors from NGOs, multilateral institutions, and local, state, and federal governments throughout Central America, Africa, the Middle East, and East and South Asia. While at IBM, I continued working on issues related to sustainability across various functions—primarily research, thought leadership, and marketing / communications. Highlights from this work include creating thought leadership that examined AI and its implications for business, the economy, and society; helping Sellers close $175M in deals by facilitating workshops that addressed aridity in Nevada and reconstruction in Christchurch, New Zealand after the 2011 earthquake; and acting as the Technical Lead for the IBM Smarter City Challenge, which helped the local government of Sendai, Japan develop recovery plans after the 2011 tsunami. Findings from the latter were utilized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction in the 2015-2030 Sendai Framework.I continued my work with sustainability while at IDC, where my research explored market trends, business strategies, and technology usage around environmental, social and governance issues, including social sustainability, technology for good, climate risk analytics, and responsible artificial intelligence. My publications include, among others, co-authoring a book on social capital and penning an op-ed for The New York Times on humanitarian aid. Findings from my work have been incorporated into curriculum at universities such as Columbia, Harvard, John Hopkins, Princeton, and Cambridge.I have served as a nonprofit Board Member and as an elected citizen representative for the Alexandria Citizen Corps Council. I’m a former Virginia Polytechnic Institute Visiting Fellow.
