Approximately three decades ago, I went on a class field trip to the local newspaper printing company, The London Free Press. As we explored the facility, a particular moment captivated me. Upon entering the room where an individual skillfully arranged text and photos on a sheet, I asked, "What is his job title? This is what I want to do!" That individual turned out to be a graphic designer. This encounter marked the beginning of my journey along the career path I envisioned. Following my graduation from public school, I enrolled in an art school and received a major in Graphic Design. I secured a co-op position at a prominent printing company, where I gained a comprehensive understanding of every aspect from pre-press, plating to press, finishing, packaging, and shipping. Employed after the co-op, I worked in the production department. All of this was part of my plan to learn everything I could about the industry so when I then went into design, I knew everything from conception right through to delivery.Subsequently, I applied to a three-year College program at George Brown College in Toronto. Upon acceptance, I moved to Toronto to commence my education. Exempt from many foundation courses due to my five years of prior experience, I propelled myself forward during my time at college.Throughout my academic journey, I undertook part-time roles at print shops, where my responsibilities ranged from design to printing, items like business cards, letterhead, menus, and flyers. I also worked at sign shops, specializing in designing large store signs I would print on the plotter and assemble onto materials like coroplast, light boxes or window graphics. My wealth of knowledge not only allowed me to conceptualize creative designs but also ensured I could execute them efficiently, ultimately helping clients minimize costs.Post-grad, I embarked on a career as a graphic designer, working in agencies of varying sizes. Progressing from graphic designer, senior designer, and finally art director. I also embarked on company ownership and expanded my knowledge so I could fully understand my clients and be their one source. In conclusion, my journey from a curious student to an experienced graphic designer and sales executive has been deeply rewarding. My diverse background and hands-on experience enable me to offer unparalleled insights and solutions to my clients. At International Graphics, I am dedicated to empowering businesses with innovative and effective printing solutions. Let's connect and explore how we can bring your creative visions to life.
