Stepping Into Strength is a mentoring program that serves at-risk girls in the Houston Community. Founded at Madison High School in 2016 through This Woman's Work 5013c, we are a collective group of Houston business women who spend our second Saturday pouring into young women; we now serve students from various high schools in Houston. The SIS program serves as avenue for development and also exposure to cultural experiences. This Woman's Work follows our SIS mentees through college while providing resources and scholarships to continue support and ensure success.

As the Lead Counselor at Austin High School, I lead a team of five high school counselors and three clerks. My primary job was to serve as advocate for high school students to help ensure their academic success. I was responsible for transcript evaluations, AP Testing, Naviance, course selection, CTE and College and Career Readiness. I was responsible for our counseling department meeting all district expectations and deadlines while making connections with community stakeholders.

As founding Dean of Academics, I had the opportunity to open a charter school and help build the program from the ground up. At Yellowstone CP, I was responsible for all content area instruction. I provided instructional leadership to content area teachers including classroom observations and feedback. I was responsible for coordinating the PLC, tracking and disaggregating data, and helping the teachers use data to drive instruction. I was also responsible for overseeing the compliance for the counseling and Special Education departments. I served as the testing coordinator and was responsible for all state testing including STAAR and MAP testing.

At James Madison High School, I served as the instructional leader for the ELA Department; I was responsible for English I-IV. Effectively worked side by side with teachers in the PLC to help them to identify academic trends and use data to drive instruction. I served as the appraiser for the ELA teachers and as a support system for teachers. I had the opportunity to assist in writing the turnaround plan for Madison High School and I was the co-creator of Operation Achieve. We created a successful process to help our students to be successful on the STAAR to get the school out of IR. At the end of the Spring semester in 2018, we had an 11% improvement in ELA and we were removed from IR. Outside of instructional leadership, my role included day to day operations, discipline, and working very closely with all stakeholders to ensure academic success for our students.
