Michelle Woodhouse is an award-winning leader with over 23 years of experience in the public, private, non-profit and startup sectors in the US and UK. She guides teams with her core values - community, sustainability and equity - and has diverse experience in urban planning/design, human centered design thinking, executive management, project management, fundraising, change management, women’s empowerment, and founding organizations. Michelle’s specialty is being a strategic and collaborative leader bringing human-centered design thinking skills to her roles. Notable experiences include: serving as a Project Manager/Design Strategist for WDC2024 Impact Project Democratizing Design with The Design Academy, UCSD The Design Lab and CETYS, providing strategic design recommendations for the World Design Capital (WDC) San Diego-Tijuana winning bid, developing a regional design education strategy as a Designer-in-Residence at the UCSD Design Lab, growing design skills with leaders as a facilitator with The Design Academy, growing AI-driven urban tech start-up State of Place as CDO, managing key design-led sustainability programs at the UK’s Design Council, and delivering the first phase of a high profile City of Irvine regional redevelopment project called the Great Park.As an active volunteer in education, multicultural and women’s empowerment organizations, she currently serves on the board for the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival, an international Director Alumnae for Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, and as Past President Advisor of the Torrey Pines Elementary School (TPES) Foundation. As a self-starter, she makes a positive impact in cities and communities through data-led human-centered design, educating and empowering women in the US and Turkey, and bridging cultural divides as a US-born 2nd generation Turkish-American. She has a Master of Urban and Regional Planning and a BA in Environmental Analysis and Design from the University of California, Irvine, and lives in San Diego, CA with her husband David and two daughters, Ava and Lana.
