We built a team of 25 staff who represented 18 countries and I created the first-ever global database of 600+ translators for every language across the world.Our first big contract was to provide the translation and on-site interpretation services for the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle, WA. We served clients such as Intel, Holland America, WRQ and several other tech companies in the United States. Over the next 10 years we grew quickly, offering translation, interpretation, graphic design and website services. Over that same 10 years, the internet technology revolution was born and we raced to keep up with it; we transitioned from thermal fax machines to the internet to web development, the Asian economy blew up, and we lost 70% of our revenue overnight, an event our small company could not recover from. It was an amazing foundational experience where I gained business and management experience, grew a team who became family, and learned to balance the endless (and sometimes painful) demands of owning, growing and leading a successful entrepreneurial enterprise. It created the internal strength and ability to see both the big and small picture that I have today, and defined how I manage relationships with my team now.
