Organized multiple fundraising events throughout Massachusetts to support the Eco-Stove Project in Chacraseca, Nicaragua.

This role requires me to be on my toes at all times ready for anything from a sick fellow to administrative tasks. The English Teaching Fellowship program brings hundreds of native (or C-level) English speakers from around the world to Colombia. Throughout the entire country, foreigners are alongside Colombian English teachers in the classrooms right at the public high schools. This intercultural exchange, with over 40 countries represented, brings a mountain of things to the table. The goal is to level the playing field for the youth of the country, which requires free access to competent English education. As Regional Coordinator, I oversee 8 schools that are involved with the program to ensure Teaching Fellows are impacting the program effectively. This includes various meetings with school principles, academic coordinators, and teachers. I also support their overall well-being as expats in their new country. From finding an apartment to culture shock and weekly check-ins, we have their back. While the foundation works directly for the Colombian Ministry of Education, the bulk of our work is organizing and carrying out events, reports, forms, class observations, training sessions, arrival orientations, and much more.

In this role I supported the entire full-time teaching staff at a public Colombian high school. With 20 hours of teaching per week, in the English classroom I acted as a co-teacher alongside the permanent, local teacher. Coming from a completely different background and culture, I was able to learn the best ways to work with them in order to plan for and carry out effective lessons with students aged 14-17 in about 8 different groups. The average group consisted of about 40 students so the challenges surpassed basic English lessons and went well into discipline, classroom management, motivating the students, and relating to them in a productive and proper manner. From this fellowship, I was promoted to fulfill the role of Regional Coordinator for the same program (countrywide) with the Colombian Ministry of Education.
