She has worked in trade and small business development for twenty years, with a particular emphasis on services sector development and export capacity building.Michelle began her professional career as manager of the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries (2003-2010) where she held responsibility for the implementation of projects designed to enhance the international competitiveness of the Barbados’ services sector, with an emphasis on supporting services exports. In 2011, Michelle began work as an independent consultant. Her main areas of specialty are export development and promotion, business development, institutional strengthening of PSD organizations and marketing and communications. Michelle has undertaken projects in more than 30 countries across the world, working directly and indirectly for many international organizations including Global Affairs Canada, World Bank, Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), International Trade Centre (WTO/UNCTAD), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa Secretariat (COMESA) and others, as well as many private sector organizations.She is co-developer of Services Go Global and GATEWAY to Trade, export capacity building programmes targeted exclusively at services firms. She has developed and delivered export capacity training for SMEs across productive sectors in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Paraguay, Ukraine, Vietnam, and across the Caribbean. She has led over 20 trade missions, including missions to Canada, the USA, and the UK. She has also prepared numerous market and sector studies, including national services sector strategies for Eswatini and Saint Lucia, and market information papers on Canada’s services sector for TFO Canada. Michelle was born in Canada and moved to the quiet east coast Barbados in 1999, after graduating from McGill University, following her family who had relocated four years prior. She has lived there since.
