The World Agroforestry Centre is a centre for scientific research which focuses on Agroforestry research, in developing farmers' skills and knowledge, improving livelihoods, and in using trees in a more economically, socially and sustainable way. In the time that I have been working for ICRAF I have had the opportunity to travel to Brasil with a team of scientist and researchers to meet up with the team that is working there on one of the institution's projects. During this trip I was able to learn about the structuring and planning of projects, and had first hand experience on how an interdisciplinary team works through language boundaries and achieves a plan for the work to be done in the future.With ICRAF I have also helped finalise technical reports, have helped structure said reports, and have translated important presentations and documents between Spanish, Portuguese and English. I have also worked on creating a few maps using the program ArcGIS online for the project we are currently running in Cusco.Most recently I was part of a project in San Martin involving cacao, coffee and palm oil, in which I helped with the creation of the interview instrument and with conducting interviews in the field.

Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee is a sustainability centre dedicated to maintaining, protecting and restoring the environment surrounding the Bulimba creek catchment. The centre has two areas, the native plant nursery and the field crew. I have worked in both areas of the centre. In the nursery I help with sowing seeds, potting up plants, doing cuttings of native plants, taking care of veggie gardens, taking care of a worm farm, and any other things that need to be done around the nursery. With the field crew I planted specific plants in specific areas, mulched them and matted them, and have also gone back to sites after big storms to make sure plants survived, and to fix them up.

In this position I organised stock around the warehouse, separated available stock into different grade levels, which then had to be set up on tables and then packed according to customer's specifications by me and the other team members. This job has to be done quickly, as there is only a limited amount of time between the parents ordering the supplies and the delivery date for each school. The job also required a lot of attention to detail, no items could be left over on the tables or missing from the others at the end of each packing (which sometimes included around 60 children per grade level) because that would mean that one child would be missing something or that another would have extra stock.

I started volunteering at Marine Parks through my internship at Healthy Waterway. While volunteering here I had several different jobs. At the start, everything I did was linked to the project with Healthy Waterways. This involved data entry and organisation of databases. When the tourism database was updated completely, I started working with permit applications and assessments, and also started updating their assessment template, this included updating any old legislation with any changes done in the past several years. I also started creating a whole new database for them where all the information about the research that is being done in the Moreton Bay Marine Park is stored, this database will be helpful in the assessment of more applications, as it will give easy access to all the types ongoing research.

This job involved packing school supplies to customers' specifications, which required great attention to detail. The job also required maintenance of the warehouse, and coordination with work mates to have all packages organised and ready to ship.

While volunteering at Healthy Waterways I was asked to help out with two different projects. The first project consisted on helping organise a week called “Connect to your creek week” where people from the community were encouraged to attend activities at their nearest waterway. I helped with creating invitations for the events and collecting information from our online survey. The second project I worked on was the inclusion of economic indicators in the Healthy Waterways annual report card. This report card shows the health of each waterway with a letter grade and compares it to previous years. Economic indicators will be added to visualise connections between uses of the waterways with health of the waterways. My tasks included organising data based on these indicators. This was placed in a spreadsheet, I then created a report with preliminary analysis of the economic data.
