Profile bio

About Michelle Padilla

I’m a museum professional with 20+ years working with websites, publications, and marketing initiatives to tell stories about the amazing, and sometimes peculiar, world of museums. I’ve worked in a variety of museums – art, natural history, history, children’s museums – and have loved every single one of them. I have a Master’s in Museum Studies and that, combined with my on-the-job experience, has given me unique insight into the inner workings of collecting institutions. My particular passion and expertise lie in the digital world and its opportunities for storytelling. These are some of the tools I use and skills that I have:Content managementWriting/editing (most familiar with AP Style)Content management systems (currently working in Drupal 7 and 8)HTMLGoogle AnalyticsPublications productionAdobe Creative SuiteMarketing/public relationsDigital communications (blogs, social media, email marketing)Besides museums and digital, I love animals and nature. I started volunteering with zoos as a teenager (Cincinnati Zoo), and have continued as an adult (Cincinnati Zoo, Indianapolis Zoo, Tanglewood NAture Center (NY)). I also volunteer with two greyhound adoption groups doing graphic design and website work.I’m open to chatting with you about museums, animals, and digital!

As the manager of the museum’s blog, our views went up 25% from 2016 to 2018, even though we reduced the number of posts. Besides the website and blog, I also worked with staff around the museum to help produce and manage other digital projects such as the e-resource The Techniques of Renaissance Venetian-Style Glassworking, the New Glass Now exhibition sub-site. The museum is currently in the process of “re-theming” the main website to make it responsive as more than 50% of users are on a mobile device. During this process, I worked with stakeholders to reorganize and rethink our online content for mobile audiences. Show less
