With zero experience, I was promoted from accounting to ad sales in the Automotive Group. There was no training program. I was given a year to learn my job by doing. I read industry magazines, did the grunt work for other salespeople in trade for knowledge. I visited our customers and their customers asking a million questions until I heard patterns and could predict what they were going to tell me. I read books about marketing to gain their perspective rather than just sell ads to them I was able to advise. I had YOY ad sales increase and won the president's club award by my second year. After my third year I was promoted to a larger territory on NAILS Magazine.
