With over two decades dedicated to the vibrant realms of theater and circus arts, Michelle Nicole Matlock embodies a wide range of performance, teaching, direction, and production. Her recent accolade includes clinching a 2023 NEA grant facilitated by the Kansas City, MO Fringe, breathing new life into her celebrated solo masterpiece, The Mammy Project, showcased and supported by KC Fringe Presents in October 2023.Michelle notably stands as the first African American to create a major clown character for Cirque du Soleil, where she created and portrayed "Ladybug" in the captivating bigtop and arena show, OVO. After a remarkable decade on the international circuit with Cirque, Michelle returns to her roots in Tacoma, WA, eagerly striving to share her talents and foster platforms for emerging performing artists. Currently she is also Chief Equity officer for Laughter League, Director of the Tacoma Light Trail and on the Artistic Team at Puget Sound RevelsPioneering the launch of Circle Up Productions (CUP) LLC in July 2018, Michelle architects a vision of live entertainment, education, and collaboration to weave together pioneering theater, circus spectacles, performance festivals, and educational workshops enriching the Tacoma community.
