I am delighted to take up the position of Senior Research Fellow with the University of Edinburgh Business School as part of the Baillie Gifford Fellowship in Carbon Accounting. Over the next 3 years I hope to be able to combine academic and industry practice to tackle some of the biggest challenges and opportunities in avoided emissions accounting and impact investing more broadly to support the transition to a prosperous and equitable low carbon society.

Research interests:Policy options for a resource efficient economy, including: (1) existing EU air quality legislation as a driver or barrier to resource efficiency;(2) existing EU water legislation as a driver or barrier to resource efficiency;(3) global governance systems for resource efficiency.

Key responsibilities:Leading a small team working on the development of corporate information requests across carbon, water and forests on behalf of investors.Developing CDP's strategy for information request development and sector specific work.Engagement with investors and responding companies.Leading on carbon related research and analysis.Key achievements:Major revision of CDP information request, reporting process and guidance.Instigation of new processes for development and consultation for carbon related programmes, with subsequent roll out to water and forests teams.Development of the Carbon Action Initiative, working with a catalyst group of investors, driving corporate action by supporting investor engagement activities.

Key responsibilities:Undertaking qualitative and quantitative analysis in the field of climate change;Dissemination of analysis findings within the research team and responding to queries;Maintaining contacts and management of contractual arrangements.Key achievements:Successful completion of research commissions for the Global Canopy Programme investigating the burden of payment associated with current and future funding mechanisms and for the Government Office of Science investigating the impact of climate change on financial services.

Key responsibilities: Project and financial management of concurrent environmental projects and environmental components of large multidisciplinary projects;Stakeholder negotiation/consultation including presentations, workshops and public exhibitions;Lead author on scientific reporting for technical and lay audiences;Business development including preparation of environmental tenders and marketing material.Key achievements:Project managing and preparing environmental submissions for more than 10 projects;Developing a methodology for Health Impact Assessment and UK government guidance on EIA;Driving the implementation of Environmental Management System ISO14001; Presenting to the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Management annual conference.

Key responsibilities:Management and supervision of contaminated land site investigations;Preparation of site investigation reports including qualitative risk assessment.
