Community Liaison
CurrentWithin this job role, I serve as a consultant for Latino parents searching the American public school system and for site administrators and teachers to improve relationships with Latinx families. I also work as an Advocate for Spanish-speaking parents and resolve diverse issues at school site while developing and employing social media strategy for Spanish-speaking parents. One of my essential tasks is to work with communications director in building community outreach and ensuring clear / culturally sensitive written communication in Spanish. My abilities comprise providing input to principals, community school coordinators, ELAC, DELAC, and Migrant ED meeting attendees regarding unforeseen results of immigration on parent engagement and expectations. My job is to lead immigration support workshops for family awareness plan and rights of immigrants and deliver assistance to superintendent in translating Spanish during parent engagement. In addition, I liaise with director of student services for district-wide campaigns to improve attendance, parent meeting, and outreach.Below mentioned are my notable accomplishments:• Supported district's homeless while fostering Youth through McKinney-Vento Act.• Led successful trauma and immigration grief screening interviews for new families while becoming the primary point of contact and advocate for families facing severe trauma.• Delivered training to over 150 employees including teachers, staff, and administrators.• Succeeded in improving school attendance of parents and students from 93% to 98% by conducting 280+ interviews with Latino Newcomer families across 4 schools within 3 years.• Contributed significantly to the team winning 2020 Russell Kent Award in San Mateo County for Newcomers Academy at JFKennedy Middle School.• Bestowed with 2021 CALSPRA award for running successful campaign "Explicando el Distrito en Español", explaining entire school district in Spanish.
