Profile bio

About Michelle Samplin-Salgado

I am a creative director and visual designer with over 20 years experience supporting causes, organizations and individuals. I care deeply about creating things that matter and am passionate about the role of design to inspire change. I started Red Sofa Designs, a small boutique agency, to specialize in working with universities, foundations, non-profit organizations, public health agencies, small businesses and individuals. My clients include the World Health Organization, Greater Than AIDS/Kaiser Family Foundation, ViiV, AIDSUnited, HIV.gov, National Institute of Drug Abuse, Packard Foundation, Harvard University, Duke University, John Hopkins University, and the Museum of African American History, among others.I was an account director for Prochilo Health, where I provided strategic counsel on advocacy and consumer communications to pharmaceutical companies and HIV community-based organizations. While at Prochilo, I supported the design of unbranded consumer education materials, consumer conference presentations, and produced a series of continuing education videos for health care providers. I was also a senior consultant at John Snow, Inc (JSI), where I worked with local, state, and federal public health agencies in the United States and abroad to develop campaigns, messages, and strategic communications around topics such as HIV, family planning, and tobacco cessation. Prior to my work at JSI, I oversaw the communications activities at the Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention at the Harvard School of Public Health where my focus was on translating scientific findings into messages and materials for consumers to reduce their chronic disease risk and address social determinants of health that would ultimately impact policy. And before that, I was a research fellow in Vietnam and a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador.I earned a Bachelors of Health Sciences from the University of Arizona and a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Hawai'i. I've studied art and design at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, Harvard Extension and Summer Schools, the South Florida Art Center, and took loads of summer and after school art classes as a little girl growing up in Phoenix, Arizona.
