Michelle is a Registered Clinical Nurse Specialist with significant experience in critical care unit management, patient safety and risk management, standards development and accreditation, as well as with nursing education and staff supervision, mentoring and proficiency assessment. She is currently the Associate Nurse Unit Manager for the Intensive Care Unit at a major metropolitan hospital.As a nursing manager, Michelle holds a strong, professional interest in motivating nursing staff to develop their career qualifications, experience and potential so that they have the capabilities and confidence to accept difficult challenges, and to feel sufficiently empowered to lead and contribute positively, within a team environment, in order that successful health outcomes are achieved. Considering her management interests, Michelle will lead a round table discussion at the conference on ‘How to lead when you are not in charge’; a topic that will examine the skills and strategies required to ensure individuals are empowered to lead and contribute positively within a team environment, regardless of their position within the team.Michelle’s qualifications include a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Nursing (Intensive Care) and a Certification IV in Training and Assessment. She is a mother of two young children and loves to read, study and cross stitch in her spare time.
