As the manager of a residential aged care facility and as a senior visiting nurse to the Palliative care unit I witnessed the importance of memories. The unease of some to live within a small space. The ease for others in picking the important items from home. The delight in creating a biography. As a student of the first Dementia Design School I learnt the importance of scale, spatial awareness and the beauty of creating an outside space as a balcony sensory garden.

Also the opportunity to work in newly defined roles and implement change within rigid professional groups has positively influenced my ability to manage projects on time and to the benefit of both staff and patients.Working in the Emergency Department overnight, 9 pm til 3 am and returning home to a young child made me aware that lifes complexities are not discriminatory.While working in ‘Hospital in the Home’, assisting with the management of an MS Clinic/ home program and the significant loss of my sister in an accident I appreciated the healing nature of home. Providing nursing care in peoples homes I witnessed the importance of a clear space, a space for everything and the importance of being surrounded by what we love impacts positively on our wellbeing.
