Current Project - "Speak Up For the Herons!" A documentary about the disastrous effects over-development in Marina Del Rey has had on the last remaining Heron Habitat in Los Angeles County, California. A recent boom in large scale development in unincorporated Marina Del Rey, CA has resulted in the destruction of most of the mature trees planted in the Marina in the late 60's and early 70"s. Now the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning has released of scoping project for Mariners Village, an award winning unique urban forest sanctuary at the mouth of the Marina Del Rey main channel. Despite the fact that colonies of Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, and Comorants have nested on this 944 unit residential site since the early 80'S, LA County plans to clear cut this last significant stand of tall trees next to the Balona Wetlands Reserve to make way for a retail shopping center, a 6 story parking lot, and a new 100 slip big boat marina (in the narrowest part of the main channel. The only "scope" in the county board of supervisors hands are on is the one targeting the removal of the Great Blue Heron in LA...Absurd!!
