The RBC Platform Engineering group encompasses a variety of seasoned engineers from all facets of the technology field.The main product being the main Enterprise Hadoop Data lake on-prem and cloud which involves full automation as per the sheer size of the clusters and constant security tightening to adhear to RBC stringent security mandates and audits.The Hadoop data lake is primarily used by the RBC Data Science (Machine Learning) and RBC Network Security groups.- Helped built a custom network security application and data pipeline which utilized iptables for IP and Port restriction, denied to log file and output to Splunk.Built a custom application to Splunk API and custom app for IP association to RBC Teams to fully secure all of the RBC Enterprise Hadoop ecosystem of over 800 Redhat systems which includes Prod, Dev and DR environments. Full role was ansibilized.- Assisted the DNA Architecture Team fully stress test new hardware to be utilized in a half a billion dollar cluster spend by (CPU, mem, disk, network) and reliability testing and visualize this data through Elasticsearch and Grafana. Built custom ruby code for data cleansing and API ingestion to elasticsearch, built custom elasticsearch mapping and custom grafana dashboards to visualize this data and ability to export to csv.- Created a centralized Grafana implementation including DR and API to Hadoop Ambari to display all of the Hadoop ecosystem PROD and DEV clusters health to Senior Management and Operations.- Built a multitude of custom checks for the sensu monitoring system relating to security and Hadoop services.- Utilized Ansible to automate all deployment code to the clusters to ensure uniformity as per the sheer size of the clusters, created new roles through ansible-galaxy, automated the inventory updating and used Rundeck for scheduling runs and for smoke tests.- Used Git to maintain code repository and revisions of all code written.

Worked with an amazing group of coworkers to create RBC largest centralized system logging infrastructure to comply with the Security Compliance and Auditing regulations in which I was the lead architect, the infrastructure build comprised of 190 node Elasticsearch / Logstash / Kibana cluster with retention of 1 Petabyte and 7 Petabytes of cold storage.• Met with stakeholders to understand their risk needs and current gaps to ensure the new auditing solution would accomplish their requirements.• Confirmed with stakeholders all possible log locations dynamic or static file naming.• Wrote applications and ran automation tools to first appropriately size all the different environments to calculate the full data ingestion size needs of 40,000 Linux, Windows, AIX and Solaris systems.• Worked with a multitude of vendors for cost and feasibility of their products for this type of large scale (Petabyte) deployment. • POC Stress tested every vendor product hardware and software in every facet: bandwidth, compute (CPU,Mem,Diskio,Security), events per second etc...• Engineered a disaster recovery model to ensure proper DR and also took into account out of country DC and added local hubs to ensure proper data delivery and also took into account DC fiber cuts and “delicate areas” where internet could be impacted to outside the country and created large buffer to accommodate these scenarios.• Created the architectural documents with all the products which were hand-picked by our group and the reasons why and also created a multitude of network diagrams in visio to further explain the architecture in a more concise manner.
