Sales Engineer who covers the North of England and Scotland dealing with a large cross section of Industries such as Nuclear power generation, Oil and Gas, Food Industry, Water Industry, Defence and Shipping to name but a few, What is a Decontactor :-A Spring loaded plug and socket which allows on load disconnection (Integral switching device)What is the Voltage and Amp-age Range:-Up to 1000V AC and 250V DC @ various Amp-age Industrial and Hazardous Area What is the advantage of a Decontactor over hard wiring and normal plugs and sockets:- A Decontactor can and will save you time over hard wiring for replacement of electrical machinery such as pumps, motors, and tools. You would never hard wire a TV or kettle into your house so why hard wire an electric motor when you can fit a decontactor and disconnect it in safety without having to isolated the motor first as with a normal plug and socket or hard wiring.With hard wiring comes production loss when something goes wrong or breaks. For example only a trained Engineer/Technician can change a hard wired item and this is a time consuming and cumbersome task however with a Decontactor a item can be changed in minutes rather than in hours by someone that has been given rudimentary training without having to worry that the item has been isolated.Normal plugs and sockets require Isolation before disconnect to prevent arcing and electrocution on pull out however a Decontactor is isolated at the first point of pull out (catch release). Because Decontactors are spring loaded the plug is moved back into a parked position breaking contact. At this point the user has then only to twist the plug (moving a safety shutter into place breaking any arcing) and remove the plug (as defined by IEC/EN60309:1) Giving on load make or break every time in safety to the user. A safe disconnect every time!!!!!
