Seasoned Musician - from first discovering my Dad's record collection in my childhood, I yearned to play music and be involved with it however I could. Initially attempting guitar at the age ten I struggled with the dexterity required and moved quickly onto something more accommodating to me, Drums. I began dedicating my time to learning how to play- an hour & a half every evening, after school with no private lessons given the financial situation at home. I utilised every moment in those rehearsal rooms in order to be a musician, all spured from watching a friend play for a few minutes and from listening to the music I loved. From then I joined my first band at the age of twelve, playing in any school and/or local shows we could. I continued on through secondary school, playing drums whenever possible and spending time with the other musicians I was acquainted with. After leaving secondary school, I then began learning bass & guitar and went on to gain my college diploma in music. I co-started a band since the first one I was in during this time and this was my primary focus for several years in addition to working at a bar and then a call-centre to earn additional income following college. In the years as part of this band I had furthered my skills by aiding in the songwriting process, playing both guitar and drums for the band over the time I was a member, as well as the networking, promoting and organising involved. I also did session/dep work for several other bands in this time (around 20 bands in the past decade). After several years of balancing working in a bar, then a call-centre with trying to put more time into being a better musician, I decided I needed to make music my life, it is my passion, my entire personality and my dream to work in Music, however I can. This spurred on the journey I began in academics, I applied to the University Sunderland and began my Foundation Degree, then onto my Bachelor of Arts in Music. During the last year of studies, I had the thought that if I had began playing music at a younger age and was given the inspiration, I could have been twice as good as I am today, leading me to pursue my Postgraduate degree in Primary Education- knowing I could play a part in helping to guide and inspire the next few generations of musicians within my work is my fuel. I am proud to say I was taken on as a music tutor/teacher during my Postgraduate degree and continue to play in three bands currently.
