As a Locum, I am self-employed and provide my services as a pharmacist to a number of community pharmacies on a day by day basis. Companies ranging from large multiple pharmacies to supermarket pharmacies to individually owned local pharmacies. Duties include being responsible for the supply and sale of medicines whilst in charge of a shop, dispensing and clinically checking prescriptions, providing counselling to patients on medication, lifestyle advice, health checks such as Blood Pressure Monitoring & Cholesterol testing, Weight Management, Smoking Cessation counselling. Every day brings new challenges and as such I feel I have learned a great deal more being a locum than being employed in 1 location over the last 12 years.

Based in multiple GP practices in North East Glasgow, I worked with the GPs , other pharmacists, Nurses and other HCPs, and reception teams to manage various workloads within practices, including updating patient records post hospital discharge, preforming safety checks on prescribing, reviewing patient medication with goal to optimise treatment, conducting face to face clinics for various patient cohorts including Asthmatics, diabetics , Blood pressure/heart patients.

I was employed as a relief pharmacist for a year after qualifying. This entailed working for up to 6 stores within a set area for the company. Responsibilities included clinically and accuracy checking of dispensed prescriptions, patient counselling, sales of over the counter medicines. Liasing with GP's regarding patient treatment, training of staff in new medicines and protocols.
