Port-Au-Prince, Haiti

I served as vice president of the association Street Athlé, created in 2012 with a friend, designed to provide sport activities to children struggling in poverty and dire conditions. The association conveys educational values through sports and capacity building to its recipients.I co-led the project “Education Sport-Haiti,” in Port-au-Prince in the district of Wharf Jeremie, Cité Soleil including: • A one week training in sports education and pedagogical methods to 25 youth educators from three associative structures; • Provide training and best practices in crowdfunding techniques for 2 organizations. ;• Teaching of English as a foreign language to different age classes ;• Organization of a summer camp for the children of the neighborhood; and• Social media communication (Facebook page) and newsletters.One anecdote can crystallize why this Haitian project came to fruition. After teaching an English class focusing on the right of education and featuring a speech from Nobel Peace prize Malala Yousafzai, the children kept repeating enthusiastically on their own after the class: “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world”.

Bamako, Mali

The overwhelming need and professional desire to work as a part, and contribute to the realization, of a project in the field lead me to a fellowship with myAgro, an innovative and social enterprise in Mali selling quality input to farmers through layaway payments. The social vision of myAgro and their ambitious aspiration of a lifting out of poverty small-scale farmers thanks to food self-sufficiency and commerce, left me highly motivated. I took the lead in the implementation of a new partnership with the online micro-lending platform Kiva to publish loans for groups of small-scale farmer clients of myAgro. This mission involved: •Strategic planning and development of new processes for an unprecedented project within the organization, including definition of the objectives and deployment of the field team. •Management and training of a team of five marketing agents in data collection and data processing.•Training of about 30 local field agents in data collection and Kiva procedures.•Development of training materials and tools for data collection and processing, including a questionnaire, survey methods, photo guide, strategy maps, reporting forms, role playing games, scripts, presentation of waivers. •Budget management of the project.•Elaboration and drafting of the story loan model for myAgro. •Posting of 220 loans integrally financed on the Kiva platform.•Contribution in the Kiva Implementation Manual of myAgro and the sharing of best practices on the way forward.

After graduation from AU, I was extremely eager to translate my higher education assets into a concrete professional experience within powerful and transformative projects. The National Democratic Institute offered me this opportunity as a project assistant in the Central and Western Africa team, focusing my work on the Mali and Burkina Faso programs. Through resourceful and innovative democracy capacity building programs, I acquired an important set of administrative, programmatic and organizational skills. While adjusting well to a fast-paced environment, new procedures and processes, I actively helped support projects implemented on the ground through: • Writing and analytical abilities (proposals, reports, briefings, memos, newsletters and blog posts); • Accounting rigor (budgeting and financial reports); • Administrative and logistical reactivity (travels arrangements, translations, payments, financial reconciliations); and • Communication skills to maintain a constant and coherent coordination with the field team and the associated departments at NDI. Being part of NDI provided me a precious learning platform, and set the stage to work in line and synergy with political developments and NDI activities in Mali and Burkina Faso. I closely followed and reported to my team the events of the October 2014 uprising in Burkina Faso, and made a PowerPoint presentation about (1) the framework of the peace talks in Mali and (2) NDI activities in the country.

In my last semester at AU, I was active with the group “Mali Moving Forward,” an initiative hosted by the Bridges Institute and the Alliance for Peacebuilding. Within this interactive coalition composed of a broad range of actors (non-governmental organizations, private sector, and Malian nationals) involved or interested in the restoration of peace, democracy, security, and economic development in Mali. I managed the group's daily newsletters, and worked on a concept paper looking at the emergent frameworks and mechanisms of transitional justice in Mali.I developed a solid knowledge of the Malian situation and, more broadly, the challenges facing the Sahel.
