About Mick Alldis
Initially graduating in 1988 as a Primary School teacher at Aust Catholic University (Aquinas Campus) , I taught for four years in Geelong before taking up a position in Administration with Deakin University (Waurn Ponds Campus). Initially working in the Projects Division, I moved into a split Student Adviser (Arts) role/ Student Accommodation Supervisor role in 1996. The following year I moved full time into a Residences role, taking up the position of Residential Coordinator of Deakin College. After a brief period as General Manager of the Deakin Management Centre and Accommodation Manager at The Gordon TAFE, I moved to Melbourne in 2005 and assisted in the CLV takeover of the Old Melbourne Hotel (Flemington) & startup of RMIT Village. I progressed to the role of Village Manager in 2006 before moving to a role with Colliers International, managing a new residence - UniSity Student Apartments in Maribyrnong. In 2008, in a complete departure from student accommodation I took a sales role with Clear Solar in Box Hill as well as completing a Cert 3 & 4 in Fitness and working part time as a gym/ boxing instuctor. In 2010, realising the itch to be involved in accommodation still hadn't been scratched fully, I ventured back into the role at Site Supervisor of Glenn College, La Trobe University, Bundoora. I oversaw the coordination of the Academic Programs for up to 600 new arrivals every year from 2011 - 2013.In Jan 2014, I moved to Armidale, NSW to take up the role as Head of Mary White College - University of New England. My goals are to experience Residential Life positions in at least two other countries; to optimise the leadership opportunities within my role and to further my education by starting at MBA before I hit 50 years of age!

STEMS or 'Student Transition Experience Management & Support' is used to manage the transition experience for students. STEMS is a web based pre-arrival induction package that reduces student anxiety; increases retention rates and improves your operational efficiency. It is a tailored, individual package for each University because we know you are different. The pre-induction covers topics as far ranging as: arrival times and bookings; personal safety; academic assistance; international students; health & safety; rules & regulations & student support services, A great feature is the knowledge tests and survey tools along the way - so you'll know who's taking in the information. Another key aspect is the ability to 'multi tag' the responses to questions and have the ability to drill down further to gain further insights into your new community members or to flag potential issues with other staff that can be dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. STEMS is much more than a pre-arrival induction. Modules include Library inductions; Room Inspection & Inventory; Academic Assistance; International Student Induction and new in 2013 the Events Management module that will take the hassle and guess work out of planning everything from your next Faculty gathering to the Annual Ball. We have a proven track record of improving the student experience in many UK university settings. We'd love the opportunity to work alongside you to make your student transition experience easier to manage and for you to be able to focus on the things you do best.
