Our department also employed 60 student staff, who engage in a dynamic and structured on-the-job training. Since 2007, I doubled the size of the Student Life and Recreation Department and, through interactive partnerships with academic departments, created classes and minors in both Student Life and Campus Recreation. Coordinator Of Adventure Leadership And Programing Minor In Human Performance And Physical Education

Alamosa, Colorado

The Adventure Leadership and Programing minor grew out of the year long trainings I was offering in Adventure Programs for student leaders. Students working for the program wanted something to demonstrate their commitment and hard work for the program. I worked closely with the Chair of Human Performance and Physical Education (HPPE) to design an 18 credit minor that reflected the trainings and work for Adventure Programs. I have worked closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs to coordinate adjunct salary budgets and hire additional adjunct instructors for the minor. Thus far, the ALP minor has been a successful model for training outdoor leaders and our student and employees are being hired for jobs at excellent programs like the Great Sand Dunes National Park’s Wilderness Ambassadors Program.
