Administer and coordinate projects and programs of San Luis Valley Great Outdoors.Provide day-to-day management of a regional trails and outdoor initiative, along with planning for long-term financial and structural sustainability of the organization. Assist local governments andorganizations which have Valley trail and recreation interests and programs, to coordinate efforts, raise funds, and successfully enhance and increase outdoor recreation for both local residents and economic development.

Developed a variety of mountain bike related products for endurance racing.

Taught a 3 credit Wilderness Survival course designed to provide the basic outdoor living skills for a variety of students entering into careers in Natural Resources Management and Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education.

I directly oversaw Adams State Universities Student Life and Recreation Department. I am currently provided leadership and direction for 2 assistant directors, 2 full-time coordinators, a part-time program assistant, two program interns, and two graduate assistants. Our department also employed 60 student staff, who engage in a dynamic and structured on-the-job training. Student Life and Recreation consist of traditional campus recreation (i.e. recreation facility, intramural, and adventure programs) and student life programs including Multicultural Center, classes in Student Life Leadership and Programing, the Grizzly Activity Board (programing board), National Student Exchange, and Associated Students and Faculty(student government). Since 2007, I doubled the size of the Student Life and Recreation Department and, through interactive partnerships with academic departments, created classes and minors in both Student Life and Campus Recreation. I oversaw a budget from multiple state funded and auxiliary accounts. Additionally, I secured grants from LiveWell Colorado, Leave No Trace, and New Belgium for Adventure Programs.

The Adventure Leadership and Programing minor grew out of the year long trainings I was offering in Adventure Programs for student leaders. Students working for the program wanted something to demonstrate their commitment and hard work for the program. I worked closely with the Chair of Human Performance and Physical Education (HPPE) to design an 18 credit minor that reflected the trainings and work for Adventure Programs. I have worked closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs to coordinate adjunct salary budgets and hire additional adjunct instructors for the minor. Thus far, the ALP minor has been a successful model for training outdoor leaders and our student and employees are being hired for jobs at excellent programs like the Great Sand Dunes National Park’s Wilderness Ambassadors Program.

* Continued the tradition of the Outdoor Program as one of the oldest in the nation with roots firmly grounded to 1925 when Dr. Luther Bean climbed Mount Blanca with a group of students* Managed Adventure Programs Rental Shop, Trips Program, Climbing Wall, and Challenge Course* Designed and developed community fee based outdoor programs that provide 70% of the budget for the program while providing student instructors additional leadership experiences* Increased adventure based trips, programs, and membership for Adventure Programs by 89% from 2004 to 2010* Implemented trainings to enhance student adventure leadership including technical rock climbing, climbing wall management, wilderness medicine, mountaineering, canyoneering, and risk management* Managed a revenue based budget of $60,000 annually* Provided additional opportunities for community involvement through challenge course programs and continued programming with the Youth Climbing Club at the Rex Activity Center climbing wall* Obtained and maintained permits with the Bureau of Land Management, National Forest Service, and the National Park Service* Selected design and hired contractors for a new $90,000 challenge course facility* Marketed the outdoor program via social media and student involvement strategies* Developed and implemented a bike library where students could check out bikes for one week at time to assist with university and local transport* Secured grants for Adventure Programs from Live Well Colorado, Leave No Trace, and New Belgium

Designed and implemented Outdoor Adventure trips. Trained Outdoor Adventure trip leaders and maintained staff and participant records. Marketed the Outdoor Adventure program and ensured implementation of sound risk management practices.

Managed up to four Outward Bound crews and eight instructors who were running 8 to 21 day courses. Provided training and feedback for instructors.

Instructed 8 to 55 day backpacking, climbing, and whitewater trips in Pisgah National Forest.

Taught an introductory rock climbing class in a seriesof classroom and out of classroom experiences. Included in the curriculum were history, philosophy, Leave No Trace, and practical, on-site instruction.

Developed and delivered safe and effective programming including risk management, challenge course management, and permit acquisition. Also I coordinated transportation, gear purchases, budgets, as well as development and oversight ofsafety inspections. Developed and delivered staff training for the Eagle’s Nest Camp, Birch tree Program, and Outdoor Academy.
