Our department also employed 60 student staff, who engage in a dynamic and structured on-the-job training. Student Life and Recreation consist of traditional campus recreation (i.e. recreation facility, intramural, and adventure programs) and student life programs including Multicultural Center, classes in Student Life Leadership and Programing, the Grizzly Activity Board (programing board), National Student Exchange, and Associated Students and Faculty(student government). Since 2007, I doubled the size of the Student Life and Recreation Department and, through interactive partnerships with academic departments, created classes and minors in both Student Life and Campus Recreation. Adams State University Aug 2011 - Jul 2013

The Adventure Leadership and Programing minor grew out of the year long trainings I was offering in Adventure Programs for student leaders. Students working for the program wanted something to demonstrate their commitment and hard work for the program. I worked closely with the Chair of Human Performance and Physical Education (HPPE) to design an 18 credit minor that reflected the trainings and work for Adventure Programs. I have worked closely with the Vice President of Academic Affairs to coordinate adjunct salary budgets and hire additional adjunct instructors for the minor. Thus far, the ALP minor has been a successful model for training outdoor leaders and our student and employees are being hired for jobs at excellent programs like the Great Sand Dunes National Park’s Wilderness Ambassadors Program.
